What would cause my partners big toes to turn up and have pain in the area of her feet accross the base of the toes ?

See below: If the toe is turning up it may be due to trauma or contraction of the tendon. Since it is turning it is stretching the tendon and when walking the toe is in an unnatural position creating more pressure and pain.
