Menorrhagia: You have heavy period if not happened before if you are at childbearing age you should have a HCG test besides blood tests for anemia or hormone imbalance. Further workup depended on tests result.

PCOS: One of the hallmarks of Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome is the irregularity of menstrual cycles. Usually they are farther apart, so if it has been a couple of months since last menses, onset of flow can be heavy to shed the uterine lining that has built up. There are ways to avoid this. See your doctor or if bleeding is heavier than a pad an hour, present yourself to the ER.
