New or old? Sudden?: This really depends on the cause. It sounds like what you have is either a ruptured biceps tendon or a developing ganglion cyst. There is very little in terms of a mass that would be that big that would come on suddenly. It sounds like whatever is happening has either irritated or is causing compression of the nerve, given the location. You probably do need to see your doctor.
