Moderation is good: You're on the right track. Eating a balanced diet that includes fiber, drinking lots of water and exercise is the first step. If your exercise is too vigorous, though, you can get dehydrated, which can worsen the constipation. Certain meds can cause it, also. If those measures don't work well enough, prunes or apple juice or pectin products like jelly beans or even nuts can help. Try meds last
