Jaundice/Icterus: 44 year old female asks What could cause yellowing of the skin around my eyes Yellowing of skin & white of the eye is called Jaundice/ Icterus and is due to too much Bilirubin circulating in the body resultant from Liver Inflammation/ Infection &/ or Obstruction of the ducts that send bile into the Digestive tract from the liver or Gall Bladder. Can also be from too much Red Blood Cell breakdown.
