Sometimes, though, antiplatelet activity is not adequate "blood thinning", e.g., for phlebitis or artificial heart valve protection (especially mitral valve), or an acute stroke. For long term use, or less critical circumstances, Aspirin in varying doses may be adequate.

No need for 2: About 80 mg of aspiring per day will "thin" the blood as much as aspirin can do at higher doses. However, you should not self medicate as aspirin is not without risks, such as stomach ulcers and bleeding in the stomach or brain. Talk to your doctor before you take aspirin.
