Imaging: The only way to truly know if you can't actually see bone poking through your skin is to get an Xray of your wrist to see if the bones are broken. See your doctor for this or visit an emergency room if you can't move it or very recent trauma. Best wishes to you.

Pain, looks funny...: Besides obvious combination of trauma/injury, pain, and abnormal appearance, xrays are used to confirm broken wrist (radius and/or ulna). If bone sticking out (compound fracture), then it's pretty obvious. But short of that, it's confluence of pain & abnormal appearance, both occurring immediately after injury that raises suspicion of fracture. Your Family Doc or Urgent Care can order xrays & set
