Work helps people: feel productive and can improve self esteem. Isolation does not help someone overcome their psychological issues. Finding work in a small supportive work environment, I.e., working for a family cooking, cleaning or helping with child care, might be a good place to start. You may want to find a psychologist and work on your social anxiety as well.

Job could help: While treatment may not be vital, it could certainly help given your description. So could working since it will direct attention toward doing something useful. This will likely increase self esteem and help overcome social anxiety. Staying at home is a setting which is likely to increase the negative feelings which you imply. Your first step may be to speak with someone about your concerns.
