More info needed...: How long did you have the infection before the tooth was extracted? How long ago was the tooth extracted? How long have you been on antibiotics? Was the infection cultured? No, the infection should not last forever. The dentist or oral surgeon treating you should be better able to address your concerns since they know the answers to the above questions.

Jaw infection: The infection will heal in time, but since we do not know how long you have had the infection, or where the infection is located, or what the tooth or area was like prior to the extraction, we cannot give you any definitive information. This is something you need to talk to your surgeon about.
