Eat fewer calories: A person with excess belly fat may have "metabolic syndrome" and can benefit from a diet low in sugars & carbohydrates. In general, if a person eats fewer calories than she needs to live on each day, her body will use up the stored fuel (fat). If a person exercises more than she did before, and does NOT start eating more calories than needed, then her body will also use up the fat (stored fuel).
