Liver isoenzymes: Some foods, like grapefruit juice, inhibit liver enzymes needed to process certain medications. This would increase levels of the medication because it's not being metabolized efficiently -- possibly leading to more side effects of that medication. Without knowing about particular medications ; food combinations you're wondering about, i can't comment further. Check with your pharmacist.
