Many things: Throat tightness is nonspecific and to be helpful, a physician will need to know more about triggers, duration of symptom, associated symptoms, more about your medical history, etc. Some common triggers are anxiety, nerve problems, vocal cord problems, tightening/spasm/injury to the esophagus, reflux, allergy, asthma, infection, medication side effect and more.
