Pre op labs: Blood tests before surgery are basically safety checks. A hematocrit, white cell count, platelet count and electrolyte panel give a lot of information to the surgery team about how the patient's organs are functioning. Surgery and recovery are hard work for the organs, so any dysfunction (yet without symptoms) is important to know.
