Have it cultured: Often an nail may stop growing due to a fungal infection. A nail clipping sent to pathology can truly determine a fungal infection of the toenails called onychomycosis. If there is no fungal infection there are other reasons that may be possible such as yellow nail syndrome, psoriatic nail, microtrauma which caused damage to the nail root, etc. See your podiatrist to get the full evaluation needed
