Prescription: can an extended release prescription tablet be broken in half and taken 2 times a day due to the large size of taking it whole?

Can adversely affect: Cutting an extended release tablet, can damage the gradual absorption of the medicine, and could create a larger immediate flooding of high dose medication into the body. These kinds of meds should not be cut or crushed, it defeats the design and mechanism.
