Esophagus or lung: Pain when swallowing is usually caused by inflammation or obstruction in the esophgus but pain with yawning or breathing on one side may be caused by spontaneous pneumothorax (bursting of a small air sac near the surface of the lung). A thorough history, physical, and imaging studies man be needed to find out.
