A member asked:

How common are ectopic pregnancies and can you have one if your pregnancy tests are negative?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Rare but not unusual: Everyone who has been in practice for any length of time has seen ectopic pregnancies. It is possible to have one with a negative pregnancy test, but very unlikely. Risks for ectopic go up with history of pelvic inflammatory disease (PID), prior history of surgery on the tubes - including tubal ligation for sterilization, IUD use, multiple sex partners.
