Good question: because no one is 100% certain. Common sense would suggest "yes", but I am unaware of any study that has proven this. Since BV/VB is not an "outside" infection, but an overgrowth or imbalance of "normal" vaginal flora, it is still mysterious what brings it on. Poor hygiene seems logical, but "excessive" hygiene - douching, for example may cause it too. Hope this helps you.
