What are some causes of poor personal hygiene or neglect?

Changes in hygiene: If this is a change in behavior from usual, the person could be depressed -- showing little interest in, or energy to attend to, grooming. Another possibility is psychosis, because the person may be hearing voices telling him or her not to take baths -- or attention is distracted elsewhere. A third possibility is dementia. Please see your doctor for help getting to the bottom of these changes.
