Sprain: An acute sprain of the hip joint was likely. Cold applications for forty eight hours followed by heat applications, rest, and if you can take them,NSAIDS like ibuprofen help control inflammation that accompanies such injuries. Allow 7-10 days for significant joint injuries to heal.

Hip popping: If you are walking, running normally without pain( and that means no pain at all) ,and no change in the alignment of the leg I would not be too concerned. if there is pain on motion or on repetitive motion or over a few days or weeks pain develops have it checked out consider, tenodnitis, tendon sprain, avulsion or even labral tear F/U wiht doctor /urgent care /orthopedist
