A member asked:

I had a inguinal hernia operation yesterday and was prescribed percocet for pain. i'm also taking zoloft (sertraline). are these safe to take together?

Yes: There is a potential interaction between the two medications, causing a rare but dangerous condition called serotonin syndrome. There is only one documented case of this in the literature, and the interaction is more conjecture than fact. In practice I have patients who take both regularly and I have never had an incidence of adverse reactions, so it is probably safe.

I do not see any: problem taking both together. Usually pharmacy checks drug interections automatically before it is dispensed.
