Genetic counseling: Achondroplasia is most commonly inherited from a mutation in a gene in a dominant pattern indicating that affected individuals will have a 50% recurrence risk. If neither parent is affect with achondroplasia then genetic testing is needed on the infant to help determine the risk for future pregnancies.
