Could be: Have you had cold sores before? The only reason I ask is because cold sores on exactly the same place on both sides of the mouth at the same time would be rare but not improbable. Yes, cold sores can be extremely painful but I'd be more inclined to think that you might be possibly traumatizing your checks in the back by chewing on them? Not sure, can you describe jaw pain?

Not uncommon: The infection from a cold sore may cause symptoms such as cold sores, jaw and mouth pain. The good news is that cold sores generally clear up without treatment in 10-14 days. Best of luck.

Perhaps but...: Cold sores are a general term and many individuals incorrectly use it to describe both canker sores\aphthous ulcers and herpetic sores. Both present differently and have different implications. Finally I would not associate those sores with "extreme" jaw pain. See a dentist for a differential diagnosis, a complete exam and evaluation and treatment as\if needed.
