Topical medicine: If you don't have any warning signs like redness or swelling in the area or pain radiating to nearby parts of the body, you can use topical pain medicine like Ben-Gay, or Aspercreme, or try ice or heat. If it is the top of your thigh, that can sometimes be caused by weight gain and sitting for long periods of time, called meralgia paresthetica.
