Hypertrophy: You are probably seeing hypertrophy of the tonsillar tissue. The palatine (throat) tonsil is made of of millions of lymphocytes and up until the age of about 18, are a first line of defense against bacterial and virus entering through the mouth. However, without a culture of the tonsillar surface, your doctor is only guessing what the correct antibiotic should be. Viral infection is common.
