A member asked:

Can a lower expansion appliance change the size of my chin and length of lips.

Not really: Lower expansion appliances work by tipping out the lower teeth. They do not actually expand the bone the way upper expansion appliances do. By tipping out your lower front teeth it will change the support your lips get from your teeth and may make your lips look longer by giving them more support. By 'filling out" this part of your face it may make your chin look smaller.

Whether fixed or removable lower expansion appliances tip teeth. they do not expand bone. Basal Bone, at the bone that supports the teeth and teeth-supporting alveolar bone, one can only be expanded with surgical distraction. Over-expansion of the teeth can result in damage to the alveolar bone called dehiscenses and fenestrations. Please seek free Initial Examination by a specialist Orthodontist.
