Common vs. rare: At 27 years of age, ovarian cancer is very rare. The more common cause of a positive pregnancy test is pregnancy itself. Sometimes a pregnancy can implant on an ovary (ectopic pregnancy). If an ultrasound does not show a pregnancy, it is worth a look at the ovaries. Ovaries are the source of egg cells, and a growth there could theoretically cause an elevation in HCG (pregnancy hormone).
