It will be fine: Monitor him closely for sedative side-effects. If you are sure your child only took one pill, the effects will not be severe and he does not need to go to the emergency room. Please make sure all of your medicines and cleaning products are kept safely out of reach of small children. 3 year olds get into everything so stay vigilant!

Diphenhydramine over: What was the strength 25 or 50 mg? A child can take benadryl (diphenhydramine) 5 mg per Kg body weight in a day devided into 4 doses every 6 hrs. did you call poison control ? He will be sleepy . Give a lot a fluids to flush it out of his body. Keep all meds & house hold chemicals out of reach. If he is having any other side effects call your Dr or go to ER.

Please keep all medications, chemicals including cleaning supplies and detergents out of reach and locked away from your child. Keep the poison control number available and please call them now. If there is any change in your child's behavior, alertness or coordination, please see the Emergency room right away. Avoid trying to induce vomiting.
