Intercostal muscle.: Sounds like either intercostal muscle strain (strain of muscles b/w the ribs) or costochondritis (CC), inflammation of the cartilage where the ribs connect with the sternum. When u sneeze, the muscles between the ribs contract to help force air out; if strained, then sneezing makes the muscles sore. Pressing on the muscles has the same effect. Alternately, CC is rare but gives tenderness to touch.
