Depends...: There is no universal and absolute treatment for cough since cough can be caused by many reasons. The most common ones are allergies and acid reflux. However, asthma, pneumonia, cold, certain medications, among others could be the reason therefore the treatment varies. If cough medicine over the counter has not helped you will need to see your doctor in order to be examined and treat you as needed
