Medicine /diabetes: There are many causes of diabetes but unrelated medicines are unlikely to be the cause. Please have her/him check blood sugar before breakfast every other morning and at bedtime on the other days. When that information is available we can work towards optimal diabetes control. Can cause diabetes: Statins increase diabetes risk from from 10-20%. In a recent Canadian study Crestor (rosuvastatin) increased diabetes by 18%. Crestor (rosuvastatin) may, or may not, be responsible for your friends developing diabetes. For patients with a history of coronary artery disease or stroke the benefits of statins are significant. For patients with no history of such disease the benefits of taking statins to lower lipids is minimal
