See a Dr.: A badly sprained ankle that you cannot bear weight on should definitely be evaluated by a Dr. Go for an X-ray to make sure you did not fracture any bones in your foot/ankle. The base of the 5th metatarsal on the outside of your foot is commonly fractured in a severe ankle sprain.

Sprained: ankles can be very painful. Depending on the extent of the injury I sometimes keep patients in a cast and on crutches for 4-6 weeks. Most patients need to stay off of their sprained ankle for at least 1 week even with a light sprain.
