NO NO NO!!!: NO antibiotic is good to take for any infection. Many infections are caused by viruses & standard antibioitics won't help at all. Most antibiotics are ineffective for fungal & parasitic infections. Amoxicillin helps certain bacterial infections IF the particular strain of bacteria is sensitive to it. Taking amoxicillin when not really needed will do more harm than good by disrupting our GI flora.

Antibiotics: Antibiotics have specific indications based mainly on the site of the infection and the presumed bacteria found there. Two issues with Amoxicillin: (1) plenty of people are allergic to the penicillins, which limits its use societally, (2) there’s a good amount of bacterial resistance to Amoxicillin and other penicillins/cephalosporins. So Amoxicillin is not a universal antibiotic.
