Weight management: Leptin is made by the fat cell and correlates strongly with weight/obesity. If you gain weight, fat cells get bigger, and leptin increases. Lose weight, and it goes down. Lose too much weight and it gets too low, and this accounts for the loss of menstruation in very thin women.
