A member asked:

What are some of the issues with giving bipolar medications to children?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Children under six: are generally not diagnosed with BP disorder, because their symptoms vary widely. There are exceptions, like severe cases, in which case meds may help (along with lots of therapy for the child and family). Meds have side effects, some of which are severe. A child psychiatrist is the best professional to monitor the meds, but in general use caution when giving children these strong meds.
