See your doctor: There is no one right answer for everyone. Work with your provider to find what's right for you. There are many medication choices so it may take time to find the right medications (or combinations of meds) for an individual. Cognitive-behavioral therapy, combined with meds, has also been shown to be helpful with both disorders. Be patient with yourself and the process.

Schizoaffective D/O?: Combination med tx may be indicated. Meds fall into classes of mood stabilizers (Lithium/ anticonvulsants like valproic acid, divalproex or lamotrigine) & atypical antipsychotics (Quetiapine, aripiprazole, olanzapine or risperidone). Other tx: psychoeducation, cognitive behavioral therapy, psychotherapy & family or group therapy.
