It varies: Some patients with mild disease and favorable anatomy may take only 20-30 minutes of operative time, defined as the time from first incision to closure of the last incision. Others with severe disease or prior operations or morbid obesity may require up to a couple of hours. Of course, it takes extra time to get ready for the operation and wake up afterwards.
