A member asked:

How do you relieve persistent hiccups in a cancer patient?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

It can be trickey: Many patients develop hiccups when receiving antiemetics given with chemotherapy. So one of the antiemetics is probaly the cause although it may be difficult to pinpoint. It may be Dexamethasone which is routinely used. I generally use Ativan which has multiple CNS effects and may help. Occasionally I use benadryl (diphenhydramine) if ativan is already in the mix of antiemetics used. I am curious about others' view
