Around 17,000: The latest year for US HIV/AIDs statistics is 2013, with 16,783 deaths among people diagnosed with AIDS (stage 3 HIV infection). Not all of those necessarily died of AIDS or its complications, but most did. Of course many more world wide. Detailed statistics for the US are available at http://www.cdc.gov/hiv/pdf/library/reports/surveillance/cdc-hiv-surveillance-report-us.pdf
