How much bodily damage is caused by scarlet fever?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Depends: Scarlet fever (SF) also called scarletina was/is a fever & rash producing strain of Group A strep disease that if untreated often lasted for weeks. The rash itself was as irritating as a bad sunburn, but had little long term impact. Rheumatic fever could occur in 1/200 with heart,CNS or kidney problems. But this was a strep issue not specific to rash strains.Antibiotics could prevent this damage.
