Risk stratification : Although statistically speaking, your time in the gym is likely the cause, certainly blood clots can present in a very similar fashion. I would be more concerned if you find that you're involved calf is larger than your uninvolved calf. Also, if you have had a history of deep vein thrombosis, the concern would be higher. If you're healthy and not pregnant a simple blood test can rule it out.
