Inflamed joint: By "the ball of your foot" you're probably referring to the joint where the big toe meets the long bones of the arch of your foot. Walking tiptoe strained that joint. Take OTC Advil or Aleve (naproxen) for pain and inflammation. Wear comfortable athletic shoes. Avoid standing, walking & weight bearing as much as possible for a few days & try to find out why your heel was hurting. Best wishes.
