Highly unlikely: It usually requires a significant blow or trauma to rupture the spleen. Mononucleosis can cause the spleen to become swollen. The capsule-like covering becomes stretched and thinner, and the organ is more likely to rupture if the abdomen receives a direct hit (such as forceful football tackle). Bumping into a counter is probably not enough to cause the spleen to rupture even when it is enlarged.

Possible: How do you feel? Splenic rupture is usually accompanied by signs of shock like rapid pulse, low blood pressure and abdominal pain. If you begin experiencing these signs, you should seek medical attention immediately. Thanks for HealthTap!
