Had a root canal a few years ago, general dentist found a nerve root left, very small infection, should i be concerned?

Evaluation needed: Do you have any pain or swelling? What do you mean by a nerve root? There can be some "scar tissue" after a root canal that is not a problem It is not to possible to answer your question without seeing you and having X-ray taken of the area of concern. If your general dentist cannot answer this for you then See an endodontist for an evaluation and peace of mind.

Unfilled RCT: Small infections can become large infections and cause problems not only to the tooth but your general health. Seek a consult from an Endodontist and General or Restorative Dentist regarding your options. I would not just leave it untreated even if there is no pain or other symptoms present.

Yes: If you have an infection from incomplete root canal therapy, the tooth should be evaluated for retreatment. Failing do do so can result in breakdown of the bone around the tooth and potential loss of the tooth. Feel better soon...
