Constipation infant: For infants who have not started solid foods, acute constipation can be treated by adding undigestible, osmotically active carbohydrates to formula and titrate the dose to induce a daily bowel movement. Add sorbitol-containing juices (eg, apple, prune, or pear). Some dark syryup brands may or may not contain the glycoproteins to be effective. Glycerin suppositories should be used infrequently.
