I am taking benicar (olmesartan) 40mg/hct 25mg daily for htn, can i substitute a generic or similar med for benicar (olmesartan)?

In general: generics work wonderfully. And save you money.

Maybe: Benicar (olmesartan) is very expensive, so a lot of people look for substitutes which are similar but less expensive. You should talk to your doctor about generics like losartan/HCTZ 100/25 mg. This is very similar, same category, but much less expensive. However, it does not work quite as well either. Usually, we do trial and error until we hit the right balance of efficacy, side effects and cost.
