Positioning: The position that you are placed in while having your shoulders massaged can make a big difference. Try sitting with your chin flexed forward towards your chest slightly to lessen pressure on spinal and musculoskeletal structures while having your shoulders worked on.

Myofacial pain: You may have myofacial pain or 'trigger points' in your shoulder muscles. When these 'trigger points' are compressed they can refer pain to the arm, neck, or back of the head. The good news is that over time massage can actually improve this condition. Be sure to work on your posture and get a good lumbar support for your chair. This will help as well.
