Portal Hypertension: A patent umbilical vein suggests the presence of portal hypertension. Portal hypertension is seen in people who have liver disease/cirrhosis which is caused by hepatitis, alcohol abuse, and other processes that damage the liver. You need to speak to your doctor about additional testing of your liver function and screening for hepatitis.
