Exercise pain: Pain during exercise may not necessarily be abnormal. During resistance training, muscles can produce lactate which can cause a painful, burning sensation. Soreness in the muscles 1-2 days after exercising can be a part of a normal phenomenon called delayed onset muscle soreness (doms). However, pain that persists during rest and/or does not resolve after 1-2 weeks may indicate a chronic injury.
