Yes: there are many types of HPV and most people who have it never see warts. So, some types of HPV would show up as warts, but virus lives deeper.

YES: There are over a hundred types of HPV, and they are considered highly transmissable, even after one encounter with an indiviual who has the virus. There's been a steady rise in the # of oropharyngeal cancers caused by HPV--and also a rise in anal cancer. HPV infections can show up YEARS after exposure--as out immune system becomes less effective. Vaccination can reduce risk of serious sequelae.
